My sojourn with the piano started when I was six years old when my feet could barely touch the pedals of an old upright player piano my dad had bought for me.  My mother loved to listen to a lot of the pop hit tunes they used to play over the radio back in the early 50’s, & 60’s and much of those old tunes I remembered even back then that I can still play now adding my own style and technique.

I discovered the classical world of music around the early to mid 1960’s and started playing by ear many of the themes and passages I became familiar with listening to records I would either borrow from the library or purchase with whatever money I saved.

I discovered the world of jazz around the mid to late 1970’s and I went on a self-taught hearing and learning excursion with that as I did with classical music on the piano.I did receive a formal music education however.   I received some private instruction for piano from a person known as Jane Dix.  She was a retired stand-in pianist for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Jane had the strongest influence over my pursuits at the piano above anyone that I could remember.

One of Jane’s favorite exercises involved one’s choosing an easy or difficult composition to learn that one liked to play . Learn it and create your own composition from it based upon the way you felt about the piece. Manuscript it then play it as your next lesson.

Jane would only accept no more than three students to work with per year.  She would choose the best of what she was looking for. The audition process to engage her services was very brief.  She would ask you one question before you were invited to remove your coat and hat…”Why do you want to study the piano?” Depending upon the type and quality of your answer you were then invited to remove your coat and take a seat at the piano or remove yourself out of her chair and exit the front door.

Today, much of Jane’s philosophical influence and insights still remains even after the two years that was spent under her guidance.

I remember one favorite quote:  Never refer to me as your piano teacher because I never can teach you anything  that you weren’t ready to discover for yourself. All I do is point the way to those same abilities  I saw in you when I chose you that you didn’t know you had. Once you found them, you taught yourself how to use them.

Since 1975, the year in which Talent Aid Promotions Entertainment was founded; its been my primary objective to help and encourage an invigorating spirit of creativity towards music of substance, especially in the minds of todays young aspiring musicians.  On occassion I will venture out to offer free recitals to schools and community organizations that have music programs available for young aspiring musicians,especially for those interested in the piano.  Of course a grand piano would have to be in place involving these recitals.

Our promotions are being funded through our "Business Entertainment Promotions Funding Program". This program is designed to offer businesses such as restaurants, banquet facilities,resorts, hotels and various organizations that are in a position to offer live music entertainment to their clientele; a chance to do so at a reduced cost savings.

Under this program, I will offer my services to a particular business at either 50% off my regular rate or even at "no charge" if I have a private client that wants to contract my performance for their event at let's say 50% off my regular performance fee.  I will then produce a signed agreement to the business involved in the program and they will fund me the difference on my regular fee in exchange that I sign an agreement with them to perform for their event hosted by their clientele at a designated point in time.  The business will usually present me with a "post dated " company draft for the difference or withold payment until I fulfill by agreement obligations with them.

Businesses involved in this program can opt to advertise on my website at "no charge" or prefer to advertise a particular client based event taking place at their business location; here again at no charge. This program has been successful since its initial launch in 2008 but we still need more businesses involved in it in order to successfully carry these kind of price promotions all year round. All regular pricing is made public directly on the pricing page of my website should anyone be interested in viewing what the discounts would come to.

 My Philosophy in Life:

We as Black people need to excercise a little more patience with each other in helping one another to succeed both in the business and social corridors of the world. We need to excercise a little more"tactful' thinking in our social and business relationships and by all means stop trying to cut each other down when someone presents a different idea,gift or lifestyle that may run counter to each of our expectations.  Every man,woman and child is born with a special gift to share with the world and can be cultivated and be ready to use,in place for those who can benefit by it . A gift is something that is plentiful enough in supply for there to be enough to share and go around for everybody's benefit.

Not everything in life is always about ...money! Yes ! ...money is very important and its a tool to sustain and proliferate the most important aspect of a persons human existence...."ITS WHAT YOU LOVE"!  You can have all the money in the world but if you don't love what you do...all the money in the world is not going to make you happy living with yourself.  Our fore fathers ancestry survived the brutality of slavery and "Jim Crow" because somewhere behind the lynchings,the beatings,the water hoses and the attack dogs and the cross burnings somebody found a little corner of the world that few people knew existed. A corner of the world where they could read to learn,learn to think,think to invent and invent out of love. Its this kind of idealism that has been diluted down little by little as strides were made toward freedom for Black Americans.

In Summary: I'm reminded of a quote from a musician friend of mine whose wisdom is shared with many of their students who plan to seek professional careers in the music industry.

"Sometimes in this business support at being the best and doing what you love can fashion a sword that can cut both ways".  There will be plenty of those who will love what you do but will never consider it being the best to gain their support simply because your not the one who they want doing it."...And those who consider you the best but will never love what you do until you decide to accept 30 pieces of silver to do anything and everything else they want you to do in its place."

Last But Not Least...Before I can be right for anybody or anything  else I first have to be right with God...Then I know I'll be right for me and everybody and everything else will follow...in that order!
